Is It Time For Creative Financial Planning?
August 4, 2008
As a child my financial planning consisted of a piggy bank and a grandmother who told me a penny saved is a penny earned. Coinstar, the maker of coin-counting machines, estimates 65% of Americans save pennies. This translates into $7.7 billion of pennies. When the economy is good, more pennies are saved. When the economy slows down, pennies come back into circulation. The Gross Domestic Income exactly parallels the minting of pennies - but I guess that makes common cents. Two Tennessee farmers used... Read more »

August 3, 2008
In 1925 the American Association of State Highway and Transportation set guidelines for numbering U.S. and interstate highways. For example, a three-digit interstate always ends with the two-digit number of the main interstate it loops off - except for I-238. Skyler Stone in the House
July 31, 2008
He came from a small Michigan town and turned Hollywood upside down. From the moment actor/comedian Skyler Stone arrived in Los Angeles, people stopped and took notice. Never one to fit in with the crowd, being an outcast has become Stone’s greatest asset. It is what separates him from the rest. Grabbing the bull by the horns, Stone did not wait for Hollywood to open its doors, he opened them himself. Having begun his career by working on several of his own short films, stand-up routines, and... Read more »
Is Play The Four-Letter Word To Say When Stressed?
July 31, 2008
My father’s play was golf. To avoid being a golf widow, my mother played too. That left me a golf orphan, but I refused to learn the game. Instead, I watch it on television. For me the slow pace and the announcers’ whispering are relaxing. Tiger Woods may have been credited with the spike in golf’s popularity, but there are other factors. Golf doesn’t have free agency, professional golfers are compensated in direct proportion to how well they play and they don’t scratch... Read more »
How Twitter is Destroying Your Mind
July 27, 2008
It’s called parsing. It means that you cannot think of anyone or anything over 140 characters long. Each letter, number, punctuation point and space counts as a character. Twitter rules as well as destroys. As you probably have heard around the coffee shop, Twitter is now being blamed for causing America to go mindless. Buy hey, come on, how can Twitter be responsible for the pre-Twitter status quo? Blame is easy because Twitter is a newbie on the street corner of interactive... Read more »

If you’ve wished for a healthy, fast-food breakfast at home, quick breads might be for you. Because they are leavened without yeast, you don’t have to wait around for them to rise. Because you can add fruit, nuts, whole grains and other good stuff to the many available recipes, quick breads are much healthier than commercially baked breads. According to a recipe I found on line, I could have fresh blueberry pecan muffins in less than thirty minutes. Yes, they are quick to fix; but there... Read more »
