Remembering the Battle of Iwo Jima
December 3, 2007
When Joe Rosenthal snapped the iconic photograph, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, he knew it was a special sight, but probably never imagined the lengths the snapshot would travel in history. It was his capturing of the Battle of Iwo Jima, during the Second World War that became one of the most well known depictions of the war. From this image, a host of stories, life histories, movies, and books have emerged, namely the most recent Clint Eastwood film by the name of “Flags of Our Fathers.”... Read more »
Air Force Ammo Troops And Weapons Loader
December 3, 2007
Ammo troops are the grunts of the Air Force, bottom of the barrel right above security forces and right below Armament. I’m Armament, so I can’t really say much. Just like to take my chance to rag on my rivals! Ammo is the greatest job in the Air Force. My best years were working on munitions, and I have done it all. Yet, with out the ammo, the planes would be flying around a desert with nothing (no one even mentions kamikaze…), and the marines that called in the Arial support would... Read more »
Are Dual Citizens Subject to Military Call-up
December 3, 2007
In the Selective Service facts they state that citizens living in some countries may be exempt from induction but they do not state the countries, nor have they responded to my email and phone inquiries, so I would to know if a Canadian citizen living in Canada at the time of a draft would be exempt. My son is a citizen of the USA and Canada. I know he has to register for SS, but is he exempt from induction if or when the US has a draft. I could not find this info on the government website. As... Nuclear Power and Iran Today
December 3, 2007
Why should Iran not be trusted with Nuclear power, which may lead to nuclear weapons? Is Iran breaking the NPT in any way? The U.S. Government defines its areas of objectionable Iranian behavior as the following: –Iranian efforts to acquire nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction; –Its support for and involvement in international terrorism; –Its support for violent opposition to the Middle East peace process; and –Its dismal human rights record. In other words,... Read more »
Iran and Nuclear Power
December 3, 2007
On Iran’s nuclear ambitions, some have suggested an approach which mirrors our policy vis-a-vis N. Korea. In other words, if they really insist on the need for a peaceful nuclear infrastructure, then the world should help them build nuclear power plants which do not produce the kind of nuclear byproduct which can be used to produce nuclear weapons. The trouble is N. Korea and Iran clearly have ambitions of possessing nuclear weapons. In fact, most experts believe Pyongyang already has several... Read more »
History of Military Tanks Of WW I
December 3, 2007
The first tanks didn’t have turrets in World War I until the development of the French light tank called the FT-17. This French tank set the design of tanks to modern day even thou it only had a machine gun for is main weapon. Many World War I tanks were huge compared to the early days of tank in World War II. At the Start of WW2 most tanks had a 37mm cannon. Also before World War II the development of mobile radio sets that could be used inside tanks meant that tanks to work together as groups... Iraq Military Preparedness
December 3, 2007
The U.S. is now engaged in a slow, painstaking effort to reconstitute the Iraqi military under new training. It will take years before the Iraqis will be able to fully defend their country on their own. John Murtha says that our departure would in effect take the wind out of the sails of the insurgency. He recommends that we leave in short order while maintaining troops in nearby countries to deal quickly with any military emergencies. If this conflict is primarily about our presence, would you... The US Marine Corps: A Brief History Of The Marines
December 3, 2007
The original incarnation of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) was born in 1775 during the Continental Congress in a resolution sponsored by John Adams. The USMC fought diligently throughout the American revolution but, after the Treaty of Paris in April 1783, it was dissolved only to be reestablished in 1798. Following this reestablishment, the USMC was involved in military actions against France and Barbary pirates. During the War of 1812, the USMC participated in many naval operations and... Read more »
Will America Patrol Iraq in Tanks?
December 3, 2007
Why doesn’t America patrol Iraq in tanks? Canada had the same problem as USA regarding soldier deaths but now dominates in Afghanistan since we began patrol in tanks. The site of a column of tanks has totally belittled the Taliban and Iraq tactics they thought would work against Canada. Thankfully our Prime Minster is not a fool and therefore acted quickly. I really do not blame those Americans that want out. The many American deaths are discouraging. So why not bring in tanks to move about... Read more »
