Women In Professional Boxing: Since 1904
December 3, 2007
Professional boxing is a sport dominated by men, but a few women have earned the right to be in the profession as well. Women boxers have been around since the 1700’s but they really haven’t gotten the recognition they deserve. The first real identification with female boxing as an actual event took place in 1904 when it became an event in the Olympics. Yet the concept of a female boxing match being aired on television didn’t occur until 1954. From 1975 to 1978 many women applied... Read more »
We Should Think In a Positive Way To Get Rid of Anarthas
December 3, 2007
Today is Lord Nrisimha’s appearance. I appeal to Krishna in that form to eradicate the anarthas in my heart so that I can perform pure devotional service. Those anarthas are our real enemies, not external personalities who are themselves suffering under the law of the material energy. Prahlad M never prayed for the Lord to kill His father, nor did he pray for external protection. His prayers were for pure devotional service and surprisingly enough for the welfare of those who attempted to torture... Read more »
More On Autonomy And Thankfulness
December 3, 2007
Also we find in the Gita that on the brahman platform cravings are non-existent, and one is qualified to transcend this world and perform pure devotional service. Also one experiences true happiness of the self. I personally experienced this with my diet. I was thinking that life without cheese would be miserable, a life-a life not worth living! But, for sake of serving Srila Prabhupada for a longer period of time in this body, I gave it up. In the beginning it was difficult as the body was hankering... Read more »
Ways To Become Happy By Chanting The Names of Krishna
December 3, 2007
The names of Krishna are the repository of all happiness. They are the greatest wealth! If we chant properly, we will not experience material miseries (spiritual miseries like the feeling of intense separation from Krishna are another thing!). So the question arises as to how we can chant nicely, even if we are not yet pure devotees. How can we control the mind? How can we keep ourselves from thinking of a million and one things that we have to do or would like to do? Chanting properly takes practice,... Read more »
One Must Recognize One’s Needs
December 3, 2007
I am studying several books (in addition to my Kcon studies) right now that deal with the structure of different types of organizations, the power of Authority, books on Non Violent Communication (which I am using as source material for several courses I am putting together on Empathy and conflict resolution), and material that helps me develop strategies for presenting Kcon to the world in general. Of course all these materials have to be properly digested and adapted so that they don’t conflict... Read more »
What You Are Supposed To Do And What You Want To Do
December 3, 2007
It’s been a few days since I wrote my blog, and I have really been missing the writing. For the last few days I have been at the GBC meeting in New Vrindavan so time has been short. But I have learnt a lot about myself during these meetings. Some people picture the meetings as a time that the GBC gets together and decides gleefully how to control the movement and the people in the movement. Actually management in this day and age is a real sacrifice and in and of itself is not an extremely... Read more »
We Should Appreciate All Services Done for Krishna
December 3, 2007
This mood of intolerance of others service represents an insecurity. If we are truly convinced about the potency of our service, we don’t need to belittle others. We should appreciate all services done for Krishna. Its like the story of Hanuman and the spider which Srila Prabhupada told us. Both the spider and Hanuman were engaged in building the bridge to Sri Lanka. Of course the spider was only able to kick up some dust whereas Hanuman was throwing big boulders in the water. Hanuman said... Read more »
Inmate’s Love of Bhagavad Gita As It Is and Srila Prabhupada’s Books
December 3, 2007
The following is a compilation of inmate’s quotes about their experience reading Bhagavad Gita As It Is and Srila Prabhupada’s books. The first I knew of Bhagavad Gita As It Is was from word of mouth and then from the quotes from books and magazines. When Bhakta Bill sent me a copy of Bhagavad Gita, I fell in love with the first chapter of the Bhagavad Gita. Even though I have lot to learn, while I am reading Bhagavad Gita I feel content and it seems that all I need. I like the chapter... Read more »
Learn To Control Your Anger
December 3, 2007
This morning in Bhagavatam class we discussed anger and how to deal with it. This discussion was in the context of the description of Lord Boar speaking in such a way as to make Hiranyaksa angry. “The Personality of Godhead said: Indeed, We are creatures of the jungle, and we are searching after hunting dogs like you. One who is freed from the entanglement of death has no fear from the loose talk in which you are indulging, for you are bound up by the laws of death.” In this particular... Read more »
If You Desire Something Enough, The Universe Will Deliver It
December 3, 2007
There is a philosophy going around that if you desire something enough in a positive way, and you visualize it continually the universe will deliver the fruits of that desire. There are some instances depicted where a man really wants something like a new sports car and he meditates on it (don’t try this!), sees it in his minds eye, tries it out in his imagination, surrounds himself with picture of it, etc; and lo a behold this sports car manifests one day on the gross plane and he is able...
