Coping With The Hurt Caused By Infidelity

July 30, 2008

Love is something that nearly everyone is searching for. A loving marriage provides a social arrangement that some find leads to a fulfilled life. This fulfilled life can quickly turn to empty when one spouse cheats on the other. The pain, hurt, rage, mental anguish, and feelings of being rejected make it hard for any couple to pull through infidelity.

No one expects to be hurt by infidelity, but what do you do if it does happen to you? Some feel that the stress and mental anguish are too much to deal with, but remember that this is not the end of the world. You can come back from the hurt and pain you feel. If children are in the picture, keep living for their sake. If not, work through the hurt and continue living the life God gave you.

Most people have no clue what they should do if they are hurt by infidelity. The associated upsets and disappointments can be overcome. The first thing you can do is try to salvage your relationship. If you find that you still love your spouse, even through the hurt and distrust, try to work things out. If they are truly repentant and swear they will never cheat again, you should try to give them one more chance.

If there are children at stake, it is crucial not to let them feel responsibility for the mistakes made by their mother or father. Do not be temped to take your anger out on the innocent children wondering why their parents are upset. Comfort them and make them feel protected in your household at all times. The hurt caused by infidelity has to be dealt with by you so that you can help your children pull through as well.

A second way to deal with the pain caused by infidelity is to wholeheartedly throw yourself into something. If it is your job, you can advance your career while dealing with your issues. If it is a new hobby, you can learn a new skill or language while working through your pain.

If you enjoy listening to music, take time to play relaxing melodies to help deal with the racing thoughts in your mind. Watching a television show that will make you laugh can also improve your mood and take your mind off of the infidelity.

Pranayama, a breathing exercise, and yoga can also help you relax and clear your mind as you gain a stronger body. Meditation can also assist you in clearing your mind and living a happier life while strengthening and clearing your mind.

Will infidelity hurt? Yes. Will it destroy you? Not if you do not let it. Try not to focus on it until you are ready. Keep yourself busy and surrounded by people who love you. Calming yourself before dealing with the myriad of emotions you are feeling will help you rationally make decisions and talk things out. These tips can help you work through the pains of a cheating partner. Always remember, no matter how bad it is now, you will come through the storm and see sunny skies again.
