Cost savings with wind and solar energy

October 14, 2008

Preserving the environment doesn’t have to cost a penny. In fact, it can be a source of excellent savings. Wind and solar power generation has become mainstream. Now anyone can make their own renewable energy system with affordable materials. Popular do-it-yourself books are readily available making it possible for anyone to say good riddance to their monthly power bills.

Taking your home off the power grid is probably the most obvious example of using green energy economically. In fact, you can reduce or even eliminate your monthly power bill easily by switching over to electricity created by solar panels or windmills which you can install. Living off the grid means no more worries about hikes to the power rate. It has been estimated that the average monthly power bill in North America is roughly $225. That’s over $2500 more for you and your family each and every year.

If you generate more electricity than you consume you can even sell the surplus to the electric power company for a nice profit. Larger landowners often devote much or all of it to producing electricity using solar panels or windmills. Some people make a significant income this way, allowing their land to work for them. With today’s technology it’s really up to each of us to decide how much power we will generate.

The government provides tax incentives to those who live off the grid to reduce the demand for power in these days of increasing energy costs and environmental concerns. Selling your extra electricity to the power company can also make that income eligible for better tax treatment. Your property value will also be enhanced by having even a portion of your energy bill reduced through the use of solar cells or windmills. What prospective buyer wouldn’t be enticed by the possibility of thousands of dollars each year in energy savings.

Considering how little it costs when compared to the savings it can make possible, implementing a green energy strategy for our households should be something we all seriously consider.
