Technology keeps advancing, every day - there is always some new innovation being made with technology, in all fields - business, medicine, media and communication. In all fields, the ease with which professionals function has been improved by the pace at which technology advances. Information technology is the one field where this is the most pronounced.
Life has definitely become much easier with IT. One of the biggest headaches of any organisation used to be keeping records - technology has taken care of that. Emails have phased out snail mail. Marketing and advertising is done online - most companies and businesses, no matter how big or small, have gone online. You can get anything you want online, from food to gifts to clothes to electronics.
The internet has connected the whole world. Just about everything can be done online now. Something as simple as framing a document to something as complex as an auction or a complex equation can be done online. Audio and videos can be streamed and watched by people all over the world. With IT, the concept of the global village is closer to being true than ever before.
Information technology is responsible for most things that we take for granted now - from networking to development of applications to websites and database management.
Communication - It began with simple peer-to-peer messages via the command prompt and has evolved to become VoIP technology and video conferencing. The passage of 20 years saw a remarkable advance in instant communication, making ordinary communication such as telegrams and mail near obsolete. The internet has become the primary instant communication method, with email and instant messaging applications used by both businesses and individuals. The ability to integrate internet capabilities in mobile phones have also contributed heavily to this advancement.
E-Commerce: Businesses of all sorts have gone online. You can buy and sell anything at all on the net. Straightforward retail, auctions, second-hand things - absolutely anything you want can be bought, and you can pay for them through secure payment gateways. Now you never have to step outside your home, unless you really need to.
Devices - It won’t be long before a refrigerator with internet capabilities allows you to find the perfect healthy recipe for you to prepare from any ingredients stored inside it. While it sounds far-fetched and quite hypothetical, it’s not impossible. Digital devices are everywhere and manufacturers keep coming up with various ideas to give them better performance and sales opportunities. Some of them have integrated GPRS for web-browsing, while others rely on broadband connections. Brands known to be researching extensively in this area are Samsung and LG.
So, as technology develops and incidentally helps the internet grow, the achievements awaiting the human race throughout time are limitless.
