Diet Pills, Are They Harmful?
October 5, 2008
If you have ever looked through the pages of a fitness magazine you could not miss all the different advertisements on diet pills. There always seems to be more pages about diet pills then anything else. So this brings me to ask the question are diet pills harmful or not?
Diet pills have a good possibility to help with weight loss and this appeals to people who have had a hard time losing weight past especially. But such gains must be weighed against potential dangers of diet pills, such as hazardous side effects. One should be aware of the dangers of diet tablets before taking any.
Most diet pills suppress appetite, which in turn helps you consume fewer calories in a day, but consuming fewer calories gives your body less energy and slows your metabolism. And a slower metabolism is usually a reason for being over weight as your body will store and not use as many calories.
Ephedrine, which in high doses can cause a heart attack or stroke, is often found in diet pills to increase metabolism. Those who have high blood preseure, heart or thyroid problems should avoid taking this drug. Severe illness and even death have occured becauase of the use of these products.
Caffeine is a common ingredient in diet pills. Always read the label and any that say they contain more then 300mg of caffeine should not be taken as this could be very harmful to your health, because like ephedrine, caffeine raises your heart rate and blood pressure and again could lead to a heart attack or stroke.
Diet pills can have few to severe symptoms depending on their ingredients. Some diet pills, especially stimulant based pills, can be habit forming and sometimes the use of them is abused. Discuss with your doctor the risk of forming an addiction or signs and symptoms of a possible addiction to a diet pill.
Seek your doctor’s advice, or research the diet pills or food supplements, before seeking their aid in your weightloss ventures. Make it a personal goal to exercise regularly and to eat healthy foods because you will succeed with your weight loss goals.
This weight loss drugs are effective, however adding a healthy and active lifestyle can enhance the benefits. The absolute best way to get vitamins, fiber and minerals is the balanced food groups of oats, cereals, rice, potatoes with fruits and vegetables. Adding weights to an exercise regimen increases the number of calories burned during a workout and helps keep the heart healthy.
