For new parents bringing a baby home, the idea of giving a tiny baby a bath can be frightening. But as new moms and dads you need to be prepared for the new arrival in every way, and this includes the daily ritual of bath time. Once you give your baby a bath once, you will realise it is very easy and nothing to worry about. In actual fact, you will most likely love this daily bonding session with baby.
Why do we need to bath our baby everyday?
Giving your baby a bath every day is very important both for the baby and for you as a parent. It is well known and recited by experts that the daily bath time ritual is an importnt aspect of bonding between the parent and the child. To make sure that this experience is a really god one for you and baby make sure the baby has everything he or she needs to enjoy the bath.
Here is a good checklist of items you should have for your baby’s bath: 1. A good infant bathtub. 2. Washclothes or sponges. 3. Some mild baby shampoo. 4. Soft towels. For your baby I would recommend you use all natural products and products which are mild and gentle on baby’s skin. All baby’s skin is sensitive so you need to take care when using any products on him or her.
You can buy whats known as a baby sling bath if you think it might help you. It will help keep your baby safe while giving him or her a bath. A baby sling will stop your baby from slipping and banging their head while you are bathing them. Babies will wriggle alot once in the water especially when you apply soap to them so a baby sling can be really useful.
The first time you have to give your baby a bath can be a nerve racking one. It’s to be expected as you have never had to do this before. many parents make mistakes the first time they bath the baby and this can be uncomfortable for the baby and the parents. To avoid this you could ask someone who has experience to show you how it’s done or to come to your home and watch while you are doing it. The nurses in the hospital will often show new moms how to bath their baby or a midwife at a home birth.
Giving your baby a bath is a wonderful experience and you will become an expert in time. To start just take it slowly and don’t try and do anything too quickly. Have a second person around in case you need support or a helping hand. And remember above all enjoy the experience, you know your baby will!
