Guide for New Timeshare Buyers

October 7, 2008

Don’t just take a deal for a timeshare from someone you meet at the beach! Many individuals may try to pressure you into buying a timeshare while you are on vacation. There is an opportunity for a great investment when you research timeshare options yourself. With the unstable costs of properties, a fluctuation may land you a deal.

The concept of a timeshare was suggested and used in the 60s as a way to stop renting rooms but instead owning the hotel. This became very popular throughout the years as people started purchasing and owning timeshares for many different types of property. Timeshare properties are sold in units of time, usually basic week blocks that a person may own and use throughout the life of the timeshare agreement.

While the concept of timeshares became more and more popular, many larger companies and resort developers started to build in areas where timeshares could be easily sold and traded. These properties were then sold directly to customers or dealers. Timeshare dealers will then sell them out to other people for higher prices than straight from the resort developer. Timeshares can also be bought from owners who wish to sell their timeshare property usage.

Timeshares can be appealing to a large number of people. People with set vacation times every year would probably enjoy a timeshare property to spend their vacations at. Serious property owners may want to have one or a few timeshares to rent out during the year for an extra income. This works especially well if you own timeshares for a popular holiday or planned event times. Many different people also buy timeshares for later use when they plan for a nice get away from their daily mundane lifestyles.

Timeshares located in more popular areas of the world may carry a higher price. Time slots that lie in holidays, or properties that are in pristine beaches and other desirable lands may be sold for premium rates. Many resort builders use this to their advantage when building a resort with nicer amenities than a neighboring resort so they may charge a higher premium rate for their timeshare slots. It is a good idea to research land popularity and buying timeshares in less popular but nicer land so that when it becomes more popular the timeshare will be worth more for reselling or trading purposes.

Timeshares can be bought through a timeshare company, straight from the resort developer or from other timeshare owners. The best places to look for them would be through online forum and bulletin boards where timeshares are often traded.
