Ha Ha! How to win against dust mite allergies!

August 9, 2008

As you read this your pillows, blankets, carpeting, chairs and entire house is being crawled by scary eight legged creatures. As you breathe these creatures are feeding on your dead skin and defecating all over your household. Despite being only half a millimeter large, these creatures are powerful enough to trigger allergy symptoms. What are these awful creatures? Dust mites. A large percentage of people do not comprehend that there is massive amount of these creatures living in their house, and even less people understand how to remove them from their household.

Bathe your Blankets or Sheets in Intense Temperatures - Although dust mites prosper in temperate, humid areas, dust mites die in intense temperatures such as severe heat or extreme cold. Bathing your sheets in very hot water (130 degrees F and more) will annihilate a hefty percentage of dust mites from your blankets and sheets. Another option is to freeze your blankets, sheets, etc. Although the results are not as immediate (freezing dust mites to death takes about a day) as when you wash in hot water it is still an effective way to remove dust mites. Freezing is ideal for killing dust mites on a material that is too delicate to wash in hot water. After freezing or bathing your sheets it would be advisable that you wash your sheets, blankets etc. as freezing or heating simply kills the live mite, while wash would create the friction necessary to remove dead mites and mite feces.

Kill Mites by Using a Power head or Mini Turbine Tool - These vacuum tools will create agitation on items such as your mattress and couch fibers and help remove dust mite feces, deceased mites, and live mites. A power head or mini turbine head rotates at high velocity speeds, whipping the mites out of your mattress, couch and chairs.

Wrap Items such as your Couches, Chairs, and Mattresses with a Plastic Lining - One of the reasons areas such as couches, chairs and mattresses become breading grounds for dust mites is because the fibers give the mites something to latch on to and nest deep within. Coating furniture with plastic will prevent mites from having something to latch onto. It is advisable that you vacuum before covering furniture so you can destroy existing mites then put preventive measures against having more.

Buy a Dehumidifier - As mentioned previously dust mites prosper in humid or moist areas, taking away the moisture in the house would create uncomfortable surroundings for the dust mites. Dust mites favor humidity and will leave with the absence of it in your house.

Remove the Carpeting from your House - Dust mites find carpets favorable for living. An impossibly small square foot of carpeting is prime real estate for thousands of dust mites. Eliminating the carpets in your house and substituting it with wood or tile can drastically cut down on the amount of dust mites in your house.

Buy an Air Purifier preferably an IQAir - Another simple way to cut down on the amount of dust mites in your house is to buy an air purifier. An IQAir air purifier is favorable because it is practically priced and superior to other air purifiers on the market. An IQAir air purifier has the ability to get rid of contaminants such as dust (also known as the dead skin which is food for dust mites) and dust mite feces - the cause of many allergic reactions. When looking to purchase an air purifier it is crucial for you to buy one that does not produce ozone. Ozone producing air purifiers are horrendous for your health and strongly irritating to your lungs. An air purifier that removes contaminates from the air without being ‘ozone producing’ is the IQAir, which is why it is so highly acclaimed.

Go out and Buy a Miele Vacuum - Vacuuming your residence on everyday can have a tremendous impact on the amount of dust mites within your home. When vacuuming with a suitable vacuum, your vacuum creates a large amount of agitation and ‘whips’ the dust mites out of your flooring, although it is important to remember that not all vacuums have the ability to both effectively pick up and contain dust mites. To effectively contain and pick up dust mites the vacuum must be a bagged HEPA certified vacuum, an excellent example being Miele. When looking to purchase a vacuum cleaner it is essential to remember that not all HEPA vacuums are true HEPA vacuums. Unfortunately just because a vacuum has a HEPA filter within it does not mean it automatically has a sealed system which forces dirty particles to go through the HEPA filter. A sealed system promises that polluted particles will go through the HEPA filter and clean the air, and remove and contain dust mites. Miele is one of the only vacuum cleaners that has a sealed system and has the ability to remove dust mites and their feces and keep you house clean and healthy.
