Have You Ever Wanted to Experience Whitewater Rafting? Go For It - Feel the Rush and Experience the Great Outdoors

October 9, 2008

To me, a vacation or a short holiday does not mean going for walks or loitering on the beach. It is the signal for attempting something so exciting that the memories will remain for a long time to come! And so I have attempted going off-road motorcycling, snowmobiling, white water rafting and bungee jumping–to name just a few of my adventures! In fact, let me share my “white water rafting” holiday with you!

Prior to going on my white water rafting vacation, I was a bit worried because I really didn’t know anything about such excursions. I didn’t know which rivers were suitable, I didn’t know which months were the best times to go, and I didn’t know which guide company to use. Fortunately, white water rafting is a very popular vacation option, so I was able to gather a lot of information from the Internet. I found all of the answers to my questions, and came across numerous tips and great advice from other people with white water rafting experience. Here’s some of what I learned.

The US has a lot to offer for white water rafting. Rivers in the Western, Eastern and Central areas were all suitable for this sport. While the Western sector had the Colorado river and the Snake river, the Central and Eastern parts had rivers in West Virginia, North and South Carolina, Maine, Tennessee and New York. This removed any notions that I had earlier about suitable rivers being available only in the Western part of the country! This knowledge also gave me the thrill of knowing that I could begin my journey at one river and end it at another. The sport and sightseeing–both could be combined for a magnificent vacation!

Second, I was able to get a good idea of which months are best for a white water rafting trip. What I learned from my research is that there are several factors that affect the best time to go, including the location itself, the general weather conditions in the area, and the skill level of the participants. Those who want the most exciting excursion possible should go during high-water conditions, while those who want a somewhat tamer experience should go at other times. Generally speaking, white water rafting season lasts from May to September.

Browse various guide companies on the World Web before you make your final selection of a guide. Take time to know all the outfitters, give a thorough perusal to their terms and conditions–then decide. The three things to be kept in mind before selecting a guide–are they safe, that is, do they give priority to safety above all else or not? What about their past record? Are they reliable? Have they always given customer satisfaction? Get the right guide, and you have got the trip made. Get the wrong one, you would rather not remember what happened!

Overall, I have to say that my white water rafting vacation was definitely one of the most exciting vacations I’ve ever had. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that can’t wait to go back again!
