May 13, 2008

It is an unfortunate fact that overweight teenagers usually grow into overweight adults; parents know they need to resolve this weight issue before their child grows older and it affects their whole life. Self respect is an important aspect of any person’s character, as this is generally formed during their adolescent years it is easy to see how problems can arise. Teen weight loss programs are being used to teach them about the health issues involved including how it affects their attitude towards themselves and others.

It is a known fact that overweight people have reduced life spans and suffer with ill health and other conditions which are weight related so teens are being taught about the dangers associated with excess weight. Many overweight people suffer with many ailments associated with serious weight gain including:

*Heart conditions *Blood and circulatory conditions *High / low blood sugar levels *Aching joints

Almost any teen weight loss regime can help lower the chances of these problems in the future. There are also emotional problems to take into consideration as many overweight teens suffer at school from name calling which does not help them at all.

The problem is no matter how much weight they lose, the names follow them around into adulthood which is especially humiliating when they meet people they went to school with at reunions for example. As a concerned parent of an overweight child it can be very difficult to know the best way to help your son or daughter; although it might not help, rest assured you are not on your own as overweight teenagers and adults are a product of the times in which we live. Not only is obesity becoming a global problem but it is affecting increasing numbers of young people and many companies have become very successful at selling weight loss products for adults and teens, but not all of them work.

The most important aspect of teen weight loss is to keep them focused on losing fat from their body, not just weight as this will help them maintain their weight as they grow older. A parent should not panic their child into losing weight as this can have an adverse reaction; after all, weight takes time to amass and will also take time to lose if done safely. A parent should contact their doctor in addition to researching the subject for information specifically relating to teen weight loss programs that are proven methods; Other than carrying out some research of their own on the subject, a concerned parent needs to seek medical advice, preferably someone who specializes in teen weight loss.

Bear in mind that some teen weight loss plans available border on the dangerous and can have unhealthy side effects. Starvation type diets may reduce weight but they can also seriously reduce body tissue, such as muscle, that is essential for the wellbeing of the child. So the purpose is reduce the body fat and information on this subject is considerable but if the teen can achieve this, a long term healthy weight balance is more likely.
