How To Make The Benefits of Vitamins Work For You
August 4, 2008
What are the benefits of vitamins when it comes to preventing Heart Disease? Which ones should we take? Which ones are the most beneficial to our heart? Believe it or not there are a lot of things that we can do to prevent this disease.
We all are aware of the most obvious, which is don’t smoke, don’t even think of starting and if you are smoking try to stop. I really can’t stress how important that is. I mean, as far as I’m concerned, that’s a no brainer. I’m sure we all know how destructive smoking is to our bodies, how it hardens our arteries over time and how it is the perfect invitation to many cancers.
Other things that are just as important are exercise, just 30 minutes a day can benefit not only our body but the mind as well. Eating a healthy diet and having proper nutrition makes a huge difference when it comes to preventing heart disease. Eating a low fat, low cholesterol diet is extremely important.
We all know that the majority of us don’t get all the nutrition that we need through our diets, so supplementing with vitamins becomes necessary to our overall health. So the question again is, which vitamins should we take?
The first thing that should be done is to look for a good quality vitamin and vineral supplement. There are many trusted brands out there and a lot to choose from, so take your time and choose wisely.
In addition to a good quality vitamin and mineral supplement, a good quality Omega 3 supplement is very important. This is especially true for those of us who don’t eat two or more servings of fish a week, which I’m sure applies to most of us.
For those who do eat the weekly serving of fish, make sure it’s the right kind such as fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna ( be careful on the mercury content on this one) and salmon.
CoQ10 which stands for Coenzyme Q10, has become a very popular supplement over the past few years. The amount of CoQ10 produced in the body decreases with age, which may lead us to heart disease. It is believed that CoQ10 works by helping the production of energy in cells, especially the ones located in the heart that need the most energy.
Garlic is also a big contender here. Whether you eat them raw or cooked, they appear to have infection-fighting properties, blood pressure-lowering effects and may protect the heart. So as I tend to say, a garlic a day keeps the doctor away, and that alone is one great benefit.
For those who don’t want to mess with odor or perhaps don’t even like garlic, try taking garlic supplements, they are a must. You get the benefits without the stink. Just pick a good quality supplement and you’ll be happy you did.
The benefits of vitamins are undeniable, and staying healthy is easier if you use a little common sense. Eat right, stay away from harmful fats, eat fruits and vegetables, exercise, don’t smoke or drink. Put your mind to it and you can do it!
