Indoor Plants Come in More Varieties Than You’d Imagine

Adding plants to your home decor is a healthy choice that makes your home more appealing and gives it a nice down-to-earth and natural look that can get lost in all the high-tech gizmos that occupy our homes now. It can also provide an excuse to redecorate, and may even inspire you with added creativity when incorporating them into your existing room settings.

If you’re looking to add a specific plant to your home, you won’t have the option of what style or color it comes in. This can be offset by your choice of pot to house it in though. Pots now come in all shapes and sizes, different materials, various colors, and with all manner of designs or patterns on them. The size may be determined by the plant you’ll be keeping in it, but all other choices of style will be completely up to you.

For the simple rustic look, a clay pot works great. Pots with patterns or shapes on them can work well to seamlessly blend in with the designs present in other pieces of furniture, paintings and pictures, etc. A bright yellow pot could be used to dramatically light up a darkened corner.

If planting bonsais, you may want to use oriental themed pots to keep a nice level of consistency. Red ceramic works very well in this regard, and anything that contains Asian characters would also work nicely. In a room that already has an Asian influence, a bonsai with matching pot would look brilliant. Just as a theme works well in that regard though, the opposite may be better in other circumstances. Dramatic flowering plants may do better in more subdued and simple pots to avoid them collectively being too showy, and to keep the attention on the flower itself. Likewise, simple and unassuming plants may too well in gaudy pots that attract attention.

Remember also that the placement of indoor houseplants in relation to each other and other objects in the room can have an effect on their perception by viewers. Having pots housed on a multi-tiered stand can give a small room the impression of more space. Round pots convey a sense of solidity, while asymmetrical pots show a unique and stylish side. Single, large plants in a corner will draw attention, as will hanging plants. This can be wise for some corners and unwise for others, when the viewers attention should be focused elsewhere, such as at a nearby T.V.

By getting creative with your plant and pot choices, you can open up an unlimited world of possible combinations and styles. This will take your design sense to new heights and make your home that much more appealing as well.
