Information Products - How to Reduce Refunds (Ebooks Part 2)
July 19, 2008
In the last article, I showed you how to increase the value of your PDF ebook by adding valuable elements like a table of contents and list of resources. Today, we’ll take your PDF e-books to the next level, adding even more value to improve sales and customer satisfaction, while minimizing returns.
Use 12pt font and double space the content. And add large pictures and graphics. Not only will this bulk up your ebook, it will make it much easier to read and provide a valuable service to your customers. Look. We want to be entertained as much as we want to learn. So make your information entertaining by including pictures and even funny comics if you can. You need to consider this in the design and development of information products.
Include “Johnson boxes” to enclose important points in boxes that are separate from the rest of the text. By including one every two or three pages, you help your customers understand which information is most important - that adds weight to your document.
Use your e-book to tell the readers about other products you offer. One of the biggest reasons to publish an ebook is to inform your audience about what you have to offer. Add a list of products, complete with clickable links, so your readers can find those products. Three-dimensional cover shots will add visual interest, bulk up your content, and increase sales. It’s easy to do - if you can’t do it, find someone who can.
Readers like cheat sheets and checklists, especially for technical subjects. If you are teaching them HOW to do something, and that task has more than two or three steps, you should create a checklist or cheat sheet, one that is a quick and easy reference. Remember, readers will read the text for the full list of instructions, so your checklist only needs to be a point-form summary of how to complete a task - converting a file into a PDF ebook top ten interview tips; setting up your new software; home buyer’s checklist of things not to forget when inspecting a potential new home. All these topics and more can make an effective checklist or cheat sheet. And the best part? Readers love them!
Are there other tools that could help your readers? Some things to consider include sample forms, spread sheets, contracts, and more. Your customer simply fills in the blanks. These can be important additions when you are writing an ebook.
By following these few simple tips, you can beef up your ebook and provide great value to your readers. People are willing to pay more for a good value, and your great new e-book will sell more because of word-of-mouth advertising. It’s a win-win situation for you and your audience!
