In case you haven’t already noticed, the must-have games console of the past 18 months is the Nintendo Wii and its popularity shows no sign of abating.

While the latest generation XBox and PlayStation focus on improved graphics, power and storage space, the Wii focuses its attentions on a new style of gameplay.

What sets the Nintendo Wii apart from its main rivals is the innovative motion sensitive controller that can be used in a number of ways, depending on the game being played.

Depending on what you are playing, you can swing the controller like a raquet or a golf club, or thrust it like a sword and your movements will be reflected in the game itself.

For this reason, the Wii is best used in a room where you have a bit of extra space to spare. There have, in fact, been a few Wii-related injuries so be sure to give yourself plenty of room for your antics. For example, leaving that coffee table sitting ‘in the line of play’ probably isn’t a good idea.

To get the most out of your Wii try to make it a social experience. Gaming is always been at its best when competing or cooperating with another person, and this is even more so with the Wii. So make sure you have more than one controller.

If you really want to get enjoy your Nintendo Wii to the maximum we recommend that you also invest in a couple of Nunchuk controllers as these really enhance gameplay in a lot of the Wii games that are available. Not essential, but definitely a worthwhile investment.

Wii controllers have a nasty habit of running out of battery power at inopportune moments so make sure you keep them charged and/or have plenty of charged up batteries on hand for back-up.
