Organic Clothes for a Baby
May 31, 2008
Today more and more parents are becoming aware about the harm that chemicals can do to their young baby’s skin. This is why a large number are now preferring to buy organic baby clothes.
Yet although these clothes can help to protect a child’s skin they are also much better for those who live in many developing countries where cotton farming takes place. On average 20,000 people in developing countries die each year from poisoning caused by chemicals and most of them work in cotton farming. So choosing to buy organic clothes not only will protect your child, but others and also is beneficial to the planet as a whole.
The problem with children and why you should seriously think about buying organic clothes is that their skin is far more porous than yours. In fact, their skin can far more easily and readily absorb chemicals that are on their clothes and you will not even know that this is happening.
Whereas organic clothing is made using cotton that is completely natural and has not been touched by any chemicals whatsoever. But although they do actually cost more to purchase they do have other benefits over more conventional types of baby clothing. One such one is that they actually last much longer and the feel more comfortable to wear.
The cotton that is grown organically uses systems that are biologically based and does not rely on any chemicals whatsoever. If the cotton plants become infected with pests these are then removed using either other insects, which will eat the pests, or organic pesticides. Plus once the cotton is ready to be harvested you will find that most is picked by hand rather than through the use of machinery again helping to save the environment.
When you are buying any organic baby clothes before making your purchase read the labels and descriptions carefully. Only purchase items which clearly state on them that they have been made using 100% certified organic cotton. Plus look carefully at what coloring systems have been used to dye the material. Organic clothes manufacturers only use natural inks and dyes to provide the vibrant colors on their materials at any time and at no stage should they have come into contact with chemicals such as bleach.
As we mentioned earlier in this article, organic cotton is a lot softer than other types of cotton that have been grown and produced using chemicals. This then reduces the chances of a child’s skin that is very sensitive anyway from being further irritated. So the chances of them suffering from any kind of skin allergies or complaints such as eczema are greatly reduced as well.
Above we have explained a number of the reasons why so many parents today are preferring to buy organic baby clothes over the much cheaper types. If you are interested in finding out more about this form of clothing and what types are available and quick search of the internet will provide you with the answers you are after.
