Planting hedges, flowers and shrubs

December 22, 2009

The kinds of flowers and shrubs planted in your garden give it a unique character. Some shrubs decorate your lawn with the ravishing, vivid flowers while the others beautify it with the plethoric greenery. While these flowers and shrubs enhance the looks of your garden, the hedges protect it from the intruding sights. Along with the trees, fences and flowers, the hedges are equally important for your garden to maintain its privacy. Therefore, the hedges can be used as a suitable replacement to the fences.

Planting the vegetation, let it be flowers, trees or shrubs, needs planning and adequate knowledge. Every plant flourishes and dies - that is how the nature cycle goes! But still, to blossom to its fullest, every plant requires its favourable weather conditions, soil and right dose of sun light. Before picking out the plants for your garden, make sure it meets all the needful requirements.

If you are looking for a formal hedge to make your property privy with, be prepared for devoting some good time and money for its maintenance. On the other hand, the informal hedges are equally pleasing and require no maintenance at all – or very little of it, depending on your needs. You can opt for flowery or fruit shrubs and let them take an interesting shape of their own to beautify your garden. Anyhow, do give some time to the shrubs for trimming. It ensures good health of the plants and owing to this you could enjoy them for longer.

Planting shrubs as hedges is a comfortable and beautiful option. It not only ornaments your garden but in quite a short course of time, it becomes dense enough to hide everything behind it. The evergreen shrubs require less maintenance and can live up to years. Some flowery shrubs with their vibrant flowers and fragrance give your garden an out of the ordinary look.

The time of early spring is the most suitable time to plant the vegetation. When planted in early spring, the plant gets enough time to re-establish itself into the fresh soil and the new environment. However, the suitable conditions may vary with the location you are living in.

With an advice from a skilled gardener, bring your desired plant from the nursery. It is important to water the plant as soon as possible because the dry root quite often becomes the prime cause of planting failure. Place the plant in the shaded and prior mulched ground. The plant will require severe pruning for initial days. The older is the plant, the more severe is the required pruning.

Water the plant regularly and be religious with pruning. Do not cut all the branches of the plant under the act of pruning, rather remove the older branches. It will keep your plant healthy and vivacious.

If you have any doubts how to treat your plants it is always advisable to ask for advice. Buy yourself a gardener’s guide or simply ask a professional gardener to solve your problems.Your garden can only benefit from this.
