Success Requires Dedication

August 1, 2008

One of the things that really bothers me with new entrepreneurs online is that they all think that they are going to succeed right away. Now, I know that they all have that potential, but honestly, success doesn’t just come to you - it requires a lot of work.

Don’t be discouraged - I just want to be honest with you. It took me seven years to get to the point where I was able to say that I succeeded, though I haven’t made it to the point where I want to be yet. Needless to say, I have been able to leave my fulltime job to pursue my business full time, so it is a step in the right direction.

One of my biggest challenges was to stick to my guns no matter what happened. Unfortunately, there was no magic formula that I could follow to succeed, and no recipe for success. I wanted to quit many times, but I couldn’t give up on my dream - I just didn’t want to retire when I was too old to enjoy life.

Though I had many failures, I was dedicated to my success. I visualized and wrote down where I wanted to be in ten years - everything from the home I had, to the money in my bank account, I had a concrete goal to work towards. With the picture firmly planted in my mind, each step I took was one step closer to my dream.

I had some challenges along the way. The biggest challenge of all was getting my wife to believe in the same dreams that I had. She couldn’t see how the business could be profitable as all she knew was that it was sucking money out of our bank account each month. She told me that I should just get a regular job just like everyone else.

Let me tell you - if your spouse does not support your efforts, you will even have more problems. But, I am happy to report, six years into it, she finally understood that I could make money. All it took was me to buy groceries with the money that I made online.

From that point on, things got easier. Though I was not making a lot of money, I was making a larger profit each month. I continued to do the things that were making money and quit doing those things that were not. I was still dedicated to my dream and with each passing day, I was getting steps closer to living the life I had dreamed of.

In the last six months, I was finally able to quit my job and the business was able to support us. Not only did I feel a great sense of accomplishment, but there is just something about reaching your goals and living the life that you have always dreamed of. It was my dedication to my future that let me get to this point in my life - if you dedicate your waking moments to your goals, you will have a great success story like this to share someday.
