Many believe the game was invented by Blaise Pascal, although the evidence is not conclusive. The origins roulette are almost certainly from France. After all Roulette is French for “Little Wheel”. Roulette was first seen in a modern casino in 1796, in Paris.
After the popular game of Roulette was adapted in America an extra number was added, the number 31. Since the European roulette wheel only has 30 numbers, compared to the American 31, your odds of winning are slightly better on the European roulette wheel.
Popularity for live roulette has grown since it’s conception until it has become one of the most popular casino games. Because the odds of winning are better than other games, roulette has become much more popular in Europe. Poker has increased in popularity in America, surpassing the popularity of roulette, however, roulette is still a very popular casino game and not likely to disappear anytime in the near future.
