Too much Information and too many diets

August 5, 2008

You may have wanted to start a diet many times in the past, only to shy away from it because of some of the things you’ve heard or the self-doubt you have to succeed. There are many myths about dieting, and hopefully, we’ll dispel them today!

It’s been said that eating between meals will destroy your chances of a successful diet. This is not true because you should not starve yourself or else you will lose energy plus possibly eat too much when it comes time to have a meal. Satisfy your hunger but keep track of the calories.

Another misconception is that a person can drop weight fast by eating just one type of food, all day long. This is very unhealthy because your body needs a variety of foods to give you the vitamins and nutrients you need to stay healthy. These are typically called “fad diets” and can lead to serious health issues.

You may have also heard that you can never stray from your diet. If you do, you’ll need to exercise for hours to make up for it. This isn’t true. It’s okay to have that fudge brownie once in awhile. You only need to adjust your calorie intake for the day. There’s really no need to exercise for hours just to compensate for one little treat.

Don’t let anybody tell you that eating before bed will cause you to gain weight; that just isn’t true. A healthy diet means you are counting calories, exercising, and keeping fit. If what you eat before bed is included in the daily allotment of calories you are allowed, that will in no way cause you to gain weight. It’s all about the calories; not when you take them in.

How about the one that says you can’t eat anything between meals? It’s better that you do eat snacks. Eat smaller meals throughout the day to keep your hunger satisfied. By eliminating snacks between meals, you’re only going to make yourself hungrier at meal times, which cause you to eat a lot more than you really need just to satisfy your hunger.

Some diets will tell you never to consume any dairy products because they are too high in fat. Your body needs the vitamins you get from milk, cheese, and other dairy products. Some statistics show that adding dairy to your diet may help improve your weight loss; just make sure you use low fat products if you wish to include them into your diet.

I hope this helps you to make a wise decision upon which diet plan is best for you. Consult your dietitian or doctor and they will help you to develop a healthy plan that works for you.
