Train Your Dog to be a Good Family Member
August 28, 2008
Dogs love to please. Puppies need to begin their training as soon as possible. It is easier to learn a behavior than to unlearn.
Where you begin training is important. Having too many toys and too much noise can make training difficult. Dogs do get affected by their enviorment.
Choosing the person who will work with the dog. Pick one person to direct the dog at first. As the dog begins to respond and learn the comands issued. A second person can be added. Make sure that who ever works with the dog is consistent with the traing technques used
A strong and firm voice should be used during training. Show of affection can go a long way to gaining trust and cooperation. Screaming can show a lack of control. It not only causes a fear response but may be detremental to all the work done.
Looking at a dog as an individual will help during training. Some dogs learn quickly while others take time. Using love and patients will be rewarded by a well trained dog.
Consider the breed of dog that your are working with. Some maybe more high strung than others. As an example the border collie is good at agility. Each breed has their own strong points. Use those to your advantage.
Using the correct training method is paramont. There are many methods out there. Each trainer has methods they use more than others. One method is using treats. The way you can decide what method is best for your dog is to try them and see which works best.
Do not try to work on many different behaviors. Focus one one at a time and you will be more sucessful.
Keep in mind the information I have given you. This information can help in encouraging your dog to listen and behave. Do not forget the most important part of the training. The part where you love and enjoy your dog.
